YOUR ROLE

Reporting directly to the APAC Payroll Governance Lead, you will play a key role in managing the New Zealand payroll function while supporting payroll operations across both New Zealand and Australia. Responsible for delivering end-to-end payroll processing, you will ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of payroll activities, maintaining complete payroll records and supporting audit requirements. You will also contribute to the ongoing success and effectiveness of the broader APAC Payroll team.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external agencies, including the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), you will ensure payroll and post-payroll payments are processed accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with all legislative and payroll requirements.

The role can be based in Mulgrave, Melbourne, or Auckland, New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end New Zealand and Australian payrolls, including timesheet imports.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records for all post-payroll activities.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure salaries, wages, and related payments are processed accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Respond to payroll-related enquiries and process requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support ad hoc Australian payroll activities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, company policies, and IRD requirements.

ABOUT YOU

You are a proactive and detail-oriented payroll professional with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance. You have excellent relationship-building skills and can effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders.

Highly organised and adaptable, you excel at prioritising competing demands and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You take ownership of your work, thrive in a hands-on role, and are always looking for opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.

The other essentials we are looking for are:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in end-to-end New Zealand payroll processing paired with hands-on experience in Australian payroll.
  • Experience with Chris21/iChris payroll systems is preferred but not essential.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build professional relationships at all levels.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly across the Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel capability.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements.
